Supercell has completed a deal to fully acquire Metacore
Supercell has completed the full acquisition of the Finnish company Metacore, gaining 100% of the developer behind Merge Mansion. The parties officially announced the closure of the deal on October 19.
With the completion of the deal, the Metacore game team became part of Supercell's structure. The company stated that developers would continue working on Merge Mansion, aiming to bring the game back to the top of the charts. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
In a LinkedIn announcement, Metacore stated that the acquisition of Metacore and Merge Mansion was finalized, the game would be added to Supercell's portfolio, and the studio is now wholly owned by the buyer. They also noted that the game team has officially started working as part of Supercell.
Supercell also confirmed the team's transition by posting, "Today, the Merge Mansion team has moved over to us. Welcome, new colleagues."
The companies announced their intention to close the deal back in May, when it became known that Supercell aimed to purchase the remaining portion of the Finnish studio and its flagship game. At that time, Supercell was already the largest shareholder in Metacore.
Simultaneously with the acquisition announcement, Metacore reported a restructuring plan, which aimed to reduce up to 160 positions in Finland. Later, Supercell announced that the agreement had been signed, and preparations for integration were underway. Closure of the deal was initially expected by the end of September.
