As stated by the agency, in 2026, the number of fraud cases in online games within Russia decreased by nearly threefold compared to the previous year. The total number and what helped improve the situation are not specified.

The most popular scam scheme, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, involves criminals offering to buy or sell an account, accounting for 37% of fraud cases in 2026. Additionally, Russian gamers are often deceived with the purchase of in-game currency (23% of cases) and items (16% of cases).

In its publication, the Ministry also listed specific games where fraud is particularly widespread. Roblox took first place by a large margin, being linked to nearly a quarter of frauds. Following in the negative ranking is PUBG with 9% of cases, and rounding out the top three is Standoff 2 with 7% of cases.

It is noted that, most often, scammers target young gamers aged 7 to 16.

“The lack of critical thinking skills and experience in minors creates suitable conditions for fraudulent attacks. Criminals deliberately manipulate their excitement, gullibility, and desire to get something ‘for free’ or ‘faster than anyone else,’” explained the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
