Main Events from the Weekend (October 10-11)

The creator of PlayStation has stated that game development will radically change in the coming years due to AI, Steam has set a new record for peak online users, and the sales of Star Wars Zero Company have been revealed — here are the main events in the gaming industry over the past weekend.

  • The Japanese portal 4Gamer conducted an interview with Ken Kutaragi, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment, known as the "father of PlayStation". During the conversation, the discussion touched on the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on games. Kutaragi confessed that he is full of enthusiasm towards AI and believes that by 2028-2029 neural networks will allow developers to create games extremely quickly, almost in real-time. Moreover, Kutaragi thinks that thanks to AI, games will soon transform from mere entertainment into something fundamentally different. "When this happens, all content will change. Content will become communication and fantasies. The very ability to invent something will become content," Kutaragi asserted.
  • On October 11, Steam once again broke its own record for the number of concurrent users. As noted by the service SteamDB, the peak online number of the store reached 43.5 million people. Directly in games, 14.46 million people were playing — this is also the highest number for Steam.
  • The studio Bit Reactor and the company Electronic Arts reported their success with Star Wars Zero Company. They announced that game sales officially exceeded 1 million copies. It took one and a half months from its release on August 27 to achieve this. Previously, analysts from Alinea Analytics reported the game reaching the million-copy milestone, calculating that 69.9% of the copies were sold on Steam, 19.9% on PlayStation 5, and the remaining 10.2% on Xbox Series.
