Seven months following its worldwide debut, Ubisoft has announced the closure of Rainbow Six Mobile
Less than a year after its international release, Rainbow Six Mobile will be discontinuing service, maintaining playability until January 15, 2027. "Bringing the Rainbow Six experience to mobile has been an exciting journey, and we are proud of the passion, creativity, and dedication our team has put into the game," Ubisoft detailed in a statement.
While Ubisoft takes pride in the collaborative efforts between the team and the gaming community, focus will now shift to other strategic initiatives. The company promises to keep players informed about what lies ahead to ease the transition, as the new season is still set to launch soon.
Introduced in 2022, Rainbow Six Mobile was developed over six and a half years, involving collaboration from 11 Ubisoft studios and Tencent. Initial testing began with a closed beta in September 2022, followed by a soft launch and a global debut on February 23, 2026.
Justin Swan, the creative director, described the mobile game as an opportunity to experience Rainbow Six in a unique way, with quick and accessible gameplay moments that cater to a broad new audience.
Recently, Ubisoft rebranded its Creative House 2 unit as Massive Entertainment. This division includes renowned franchises like Tom Clancy's The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell, as well as new original projects such as "March of the Giants," acquired from Amazon Game Studios.
Massive Entertainment is managed by Christoph Hartmann, who was previously with Amazon Game Studios. He assumed his role at Ubisoft in June.
The Rainbow Six series is part of Vantage Studios, a joint venture with Tencent, which owns a 25% share. This partnership also encompasses other popular titles like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. Vantage Studios is under the leadership of co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, along with multiple Ubisoft branches including those in Barcelona, Montreal, Quebec, Saguenay, Sherbrooke, and Sofia.
