A video game museum has opened in St. Petersburg
In Russia's northern capital, a museum dedicated to the history of video games has opened. It spans numerous iconic eras of the gaming industry, from the earliest arcade games to modern projects for VR and AR headsets.
The museum's route is laid out by decades. It shows how not only games and technology have evolved, but also the environments in which gamers interacted with them. For instance, one of the museum spaces recreates an internet café, while another replicates a typical arcade. A separate section of the exhibit features artifacts connected to Russian game development.
The video game museum was created with the participation of the Soviet Arcade Machines Museum team, the founders of the "Genesis" film festival, and other specialists. The Organization for the Development of the Video Game Industry also contributed.
Additionally, the museum team is developing an online encyclopedia of games. It currently includes around 250-270 projects, and by the end of the year, they plan to expand the number to approximately one thousand.
The museum is located on the second floor of the "Station 1853" space, situated at 118 Obvodny Canal Embankment.
