Following the completion of a $111 billion acquisition, Paramount Games Studio and WB Games have merged under the umbrella of Skydance
Under the leadership of Tony Driscoll, Paramount Games Studio is set to join forces with Warner Bros. Games under the Skydance banner.
The $111 billion transaction, finalized by Paramount earlier today, has resulted in both companies now being part of Skydance. However, the initial public statement made no specific mention of the video game sectors. A memo released to Variety by Skydance's president Andy Gordon revealed the merging of Paramount and WBD's games and experiences sectors, overseeing works based on the intellectual properties of both entities.
Driscoll, who currently leads Paramount Games Studio, will also be responsible for the games and experiences division, alongside his roles in corporate strategy and development at Skydance.
President Gordon emphasized investment in growth sectors like Gaming, Experiences, and Publishing as key to expanding both offline and online consumer interactions while highlighting potential in furthering DC Comics' storytelling prowess and e-commerce outreach.
The establishment of Paramount Games Studio took place this summer under the guidance of Dan Prigg, the Executive Vice President and head of games. The studio integrates Paramount's properties with Skydance Interactive and Skydance New Media.
Before the merger, Paramount primarily focused on licensing rather than internal development or publishing, according to Prigg in his discussion with GamesIndustry.biz. Combining both companies into one division aims to optimize brand management and community building.
As a result of the merger, Josh Silverman has been declared president of global products and publishing, while Jim Sterner remains as chief people officer and Jose Turkienicz continues in his role as president of global operations.
Skydance CEO David Ellison mentioned that amalgamating two companies of considerable size and complexity will bring about "difficult decisions," with "changes and impacts" inevitable, promising a prompt and considerate approach to these transitions.
"Uniting these enterprises is about establishing a future-forward media and entertainment powerhouse, and we aim to maintain momentum through direct communication and a focus on our foundational goals," stated Ellison.
