The president and Chief Creative Officer of Disney has denied speculation about acquiring Epic Games, stating, "Those are not the conversations we are having right now"

Dana Walden, the president and Chief Content Officer at Walt Disney Company, has quelled speculation regarding Disney acquiring Epic Games, clarifying that such discussions are not currently taking place. Her remarks came during a session at Bloomberg's Screentime event, where she mentioned the "very serious conversations" between the firms after Disney's $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games in 2024. Walden emphasized that both entities are currently gearing up for new product launches to highlight the benefits of their collaboration.
Tim Sweeney, the CEO of Epic Games, noted that even after Disney's investment, Epic Games would sustain its board leadership post-acquisition. The collaboration with Disney, following this investment, led to efforts in crafting a unique "games and entertainment universe."
One key collaboration involved featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu and initiated the Smugglers Gambit, a new island allowing players to experience the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run at Disneyland. Walden described how players integrate their Disney and Fortnite identities for a personalized ride experience, earning digital rewards that are redeemable in Fortnite. This venture generated significant exposure for The Mandalorian and Grogu, with plans for ongoing events to continue enhancing the visibility of these brands.
Since the investment, joint ventures have brought Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and additional Star Wars and Marvel content into their projects. Disney has also linked these initiatives with Disneyland attractions, such as Smuggler's Run.
Josh D'Amaro, Disney Experiences chairman, remarked on the partnership's potential to unify Disney's vast array of narratives and experiences for audiences in unprecedented ways. He highlighted how Epic Games' cutting-edge technology and Fortnite's open platform provide opportunities for Disney to engage audiences where they are and in a manner personalized to their preferences.
