Hideo Kojima expressed disbelief over Sony's decision to terminate support for the project called Physint, which he believed had immense sales potential. He shared his confusion with The Washington Post, noting his prior understanding of collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment despite Jim Ryan's retirement.

Kojima was taken aback by the news and was left contemplating the next steps, acknowledging the challenge without displaying anger or sorrow.

On September 10, Kojima revealed on social media that the studio received an unexpected notification in mid-June from PlayStation Studios halting their financial backing of the project.

As an independent company, Kojima Productions faced uncertain times without Sony's support. Kojima highlighted the risk of failure many independent studios face and emphasized his determination to keep his studio viable by seeking another partner.

A partnership was established with Xbox, which is also behind Kojima Productions' upcoming horror game, OD. This collaboration led to no job losses, as the team was reassigned to focus on OD, while a smaller group worked on Physint.

Although Sony provided no explanations for their decision, a Bloomberg report mentioned that the project was missing deadlines and exceeding budget expectations.

Additionally, revenue from Death Stranding and its sequel did not align with expectations, sources indicated. However, Kojima Productions advised skepticism regarding these claims, despite the serious nature of the situation.

Moving forward, Kojima reassured that the studio remains profitable and development on Physint progresses with Xbox. Despite the recent events, Kojima maintained that Sony and his studio still hold a good relationship, calling companies "living entities" and dismissing any notion of conflict.

The development of Physint is advancing, with the storyline and concept established, and the studio now working on 3D models and testing game engines. Kojima affirmed that agreements with talent and artists were in place, insisting he could not backtrack on commitments, especially after past experiences like PT.
