Developers at MindsEye have announced another series of job cuts at Build A Rocket Boy

Scottish game developer Build a Rocket Boy has reportedly undergone another series of layoffs. Their action-adventure game, MindsEye, encountered significant challenges upon its release in June 2025, facing criticism for bugs and performance issues, along with the abrupt cancellation of planned marketing events and unsatisfactory reviews. Following this, the company reduced its workforce but has persisted in enhancing the game through updates, including introducing a "free starter pack" across all platforms in November.
Shortly after MindsEye's debut, approximately 300 staff members were reportedly let go, with additional cuts taking place earlier this year. In February, Build a Rocket Boy announced a "new phase of ongoing development" for MindsEye, representing the first major public relations effort since its launch. In March, the studio and IOI Partners, which is associated with IO Interactive, ended their publishing agreement.
IGN has reported that several employees at Build a Rocket Boy have confirmed their layoffs, though the scale of these recent cuts is yet to be ascertained. Dan Hawkins, who was involved in talent acquisition and led HR operations at the studio, announced his own departure on LinkedIn.
Hawkins expressed his sentiments about leaving: "With a very heavy heart I raise my green banner, along with the rest of my colleagues at Build a Rocket Boy. Just shy of 5 years here at BARB and one hell of a ride! Being the first hire into our internal recruitment team, taking the studio from 200 to 550 in a short period of time. It has been an honour to work alongside so many talented people, far too many to mention!"
He also mentioned his interest in exploring new opportunities both within and outside the gaming industry. A source mentioned to IGN that even if the studio releases all its staff, Build a Rocket Boy might not disband. However, the company has not issued a comment in response to inquiries.
In July, Build a Rocket Boy employees demonstrated outside the Edinburgh office, voicing their opposition to an "all-expenses-paid" fan event, which they deemed inappropriate given the extent of recent layoffs.
