Sega and Netflix have revealed a collaboration to create adaptations of Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven

A collaboration between Sega and Netflix has been announced, focusing on adapting several titles including Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven.

The initial endeavor is a film based on Crazy Taxi, with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, recognized for their work on The Naked Gun reboot, handling the screenplay. Producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara from the Sonic franchise are involved in this project.

In addition, Stranger Than Heaven is set to be transformed into a live-action crime movie with Toru Nakahara as producer.

A new animated Sonic series aimed at young children will be introduced. This will expand on Netflix's existing animated Sonic offerings, which include Sonic Prime that debuted in 2022.

Sega's president and COO Shuji Utsumi expressed pride in collaborating with Netflix, stating, "We've seen Netflix handle stories with skill across all formats, and we are proud to see this dedication extended to Sonic, Crazy Taxi, and Stranger Than Heaven."

Brandon Riegg, Netflix's VP of nonfiction and transmedia, noted that working with Crazy Taxi, Sonic, and Stranger Than Heaven provides the opportunity to explore various eras of Sega's history, while also engaging both current and new fans.

The partnership with Sega is part of Netflix's broader strategy of developing video game adaptations, which includes Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Devil May Cry, a live-action version of Assassin's Creed, and a Gears of War movie, in addition to series based on Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering, Clash of Clans, and Overcooked.

Moreover, Netflix teamed up with Rockstar to offer an exclusive 30-minute insight into Grand Theft Auto 6.

This preview gained significant attention on Netflix, amassing 31.1 million views within four days and resulted in over 100,000 new registrations during a six-hour exclusive access period.
