The goal is to increase the gross value added of video games in Russia by six times over a decade

In the newly approved strategy for the development of Russia's creative economy, there is room for ambitious figures. Specifically, the authorities have shared plans to significantly increase the gross value added (GVA) in the gaming sector.

As stated in the document, by 2036, the GVA for video games in the country is expected to reach an impressive mark of 114.34 billion rubles. Apparently, it has never been this high before.

For comparison: in 2023, the GVA for video games amounted to only 8.96 billion rubles, and by the end of 2026, it is forecasted to be 18.09 billion rubles.

It is worth noting that compared to most other segments of the creative economy, video games generate relatively small sums. For instance, in ten years, the authorities expect the GVA for non-gaming software to reach 11.5 trillion rubles, and for cinema, 2.4 trillion rubles.

If the plan is successfully implemented, the share of video games in the GVA of the entire Russian creative economy is expected to grow from 0.2% in 2026 to 0.37% in 2036.
