The goal is to increase the gross value added of video games in Russia by six times over the course of a decade
In the newly approved strategy for the development of Russia's creative economy, there is room for ambitious numbers. Specifically, the authorities have shared plans to significantly increase the gross value added (GVA) in the gaming segment.

As stated in the document, by 2036 the GVA of video games in the country should reach an impressive mark of 114.34 billion rubles. Apparently, it has never been this high before.
For comparison: in 2023, the GVA of video games was only 8.96 billion rubles, and by the end of 2026, it is expected to be 18.09 billion rubles.
It is worth noting that, relative to most other segments of the creative economy, video games do not generate such large sums. For example, in ten years, the authorities expect non-gaming software to have a GVA of 11.5 trillion rubles, and cinema to reach 2.4 trillion rubles.
If the plan succeeds, the share of video games in the GVA of the entire Russian creative economy will grow from 0.2% in 2026 to 0.37% in 2036.
