Cloud Imperium has pushed back the release of "Squadron 42" to 2027, stating a desire to avoid competing for attention with the anticipated launch of "GTA 6"

The launch of the Star Citizen offshoot, Squadron 42, has been delayed until the second quarter of 2027. The postponement is a strategic move to avoid competition with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 release.

Chris Roberts, CEO and co-founder of Cloud Imperium Games, stressed the importance of allowing the game to capture the gaming community's full attention. "There’s no way," he stated, "I would want to debut my spiritual follow-up to Wing Commander, which has been 12 years in the making, during the media frenzy expected for GTA 6."

Roberts noted that although GTA 6 will not hit PC platforms this November, the game will still dominate media, leaving little space for other titles to gain visibility.

Featuring renowned actors such as Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, and Henry Cavill, Squadron 42 is set to offer a star-studded single-player experience.

Roberts revealed that select original backers and veteran content creators for Star Citizen will gain early access to Squadron 42 this October. He promised that further announcements concerning the game's release will be communicated in the near future.

Although many fans are eager to play Squadron 42 this year, Roberts assured them that the delay is ultimately for the project's benefit, as it "deserves prominent attention from the gaming world."

With development beginning in 2012, Star Citizen has generated over $1 billion from crowdfunding and early access sales, yet a definitive release date remains elusive.

In a previous statement this year, Cloud Imperium co-founder Sandi Roberts mentioned that the game's launch was approaching imminently. She emphasized that the marketing strategy for Squadron 42 would cater to a broader demographic than Star Citizen's campaign.

She expressed enthusiasm for the community's involvement, noting that supporters have been integral to the game's development. "I believe it will be an exciting time as they join in celebrating Squadron's launch," she remarked.
