1047 Games is ceasing active development on the titles Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, transitioning both games to peer-to-peer hosting. This marks a strategic shift for the studio as it moves away from live service shooters after a decade. The decision stems from both titles not producing sufficient revenue to sustain the costs of dedicated servers, which led the studio to assess continuation as unsustainable.
On September 3, the dedicated servers and matchmaking for both games will be deactivated, transitioning to peer-to-peer hosting complemented by a server browser. This change allows players to maintain game hosting and locate matches. Empulse will also receive its final update, which includes a new map and reduced pricing across all regions.
Previously, 1047 Games implemented a similar strategy with the initial version of Splitgate, which last year transitioned to peer-to-peer hosting still playable on consoles despite the termination of its servers.
Splitgate 2 encountered controversy at its June 2025 release, involving elements like a "Make FPS Great Again" hat and a $145 cosmetic bundle. Subsequently, the studio experienced layoffs and by the following month, reverted the game to beta status, accompanied by another round of job cuts.
Conversely, Empulse, a 6v6 movement shooter inspired by Titanfall, began its early access phase in June 2026, although several rounds of layoffs quickly ensued thereafter.
Studio founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian expressed a pivot in focus for 1047 Games, evolving beyond the framework of live service shooters and suggesting future projects might diverge from the studio's previous offerings.
"We established 1047 Games ten years ago driven by our love of video games," noted the co-founders, reflecting on over 25 million players engaging with their games and the lasting connections formed along the way.
They added that although their forthcoming projects could differ significantly from previous ones, the core passion for game creation remains intact, underscoring the knowledge gained from past experiences.
The announcement did not explicitly address further staffing developments. However, the company experienced prior layoffs, notably in July following the release of Empulse. The potential impact of the latest statement on staffing numbers remains indeterminate.
