The developers of Subnautica 2 donated a substantial amount of money to clean the ocean of plastic
The studio Unknown Worlds regularly engages in charitable activities. For instance, in 2018, it directed a portion of its revenue to the whale and dolphin conservation fund, and in 2020, it allocated funds to combat COVID-19. Now, the developers have decided to assist with the removal of plastic waste from the ocean.

Unknown Worlds announced that it has donated $100,000 to the nonprofit organization The Ocean Cleanup. According to the studio, this donation is a way not only to care for the environment but also to express gratitude to the Subnautica 2 community, which spends "countless hours" cleaning virtual waters.
The developers of Subnautica 2 are not collaborating with The Ocean Cleanup for the first time. In 2019, they already transferred funds to the organization, but that time the amount was more modest — $20,700.
Subnautica 2 was released in early access on PC and Xbox Series on May 14, 2026, and by the beginning of June, it had sold 5 million copies worldwide. According to the estimates by the Gamalytic service, the Steam version of the game alone has earned $89.2 million to date.
