Take-Two Interactive has issued subpoenas to Microsoft, Discord, and X in connection with the ongoing leaks related to GTA 6

Subpoenas have been issued by Take-Two Interactive to Microsoft and Discord as part of investigations into the leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 content.

According to reports from Kotaku and IGN, the parent company of Rockstar Games is seeking records associated with accounts responsible for disseminating leaks online, which involves user details and linked accounts on platforms like OneDrive and Xbox.

The subpoena, filed with the Southern District of New York, aims to reveal the identity of those allegedly infringing on Take-Two’s copyright, with the intention of safeguarding the company's rights.

Included in the protected content are various creative elements like audiovisual content, images, and dialogue.

The request references a GitHub repository, managed under Microsoft's oversight, where leaked material has been shared.

Take-Two is calling for full disclosure of Microsoft's internal records and investigative efforts regarding a user identity known as "CyberLeek."

Similarly, Take-Two has requested that Discord provide identifying details for user accounts that interacted on certain Discord servers connected to the leaks from June 1, 2026, onwards. This request covers account ID, registration details, and related device information.

The stipulated deadline for Microsoft and Discord to submit the requested documents is September 4, 2026.

Among the documents is a take-down notice addressing Discord, highlighted by Mashable, which states:

"The reported post contains unauthorized, leaked gameplay footage from the unreleased Grand Theft Auto 6. This material reproduces our client's copyrighted game assets unlawfully. It is labeled as genuine leaked content from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., constituting unauthorized use and distribution of our client’s copyrighted work."

Discord confirmed in a statement that it will address valid subpoenas in accordance with legal requirements.

Scott Van Vliet, Chief Technology Officer at Xbox, indicated via social media that they are actively collaborating with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to safeguard creative works and intellectual property.

Recently, a hacker group named "CyberLeek" has been distributing new leaks daily containing purported GTA 6 content. This activity has surfaced ahead of a planned Netflix preview of the game on August 28.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned to GamesIndustry.biz that this partnership with Netflix is a preliminary part of the larger promotional effort for the game, set to officially launch on November 19.
