The demand for licenses to operate in New Zealand's iGaming market has significantly exceeded supply
One and a half months ago, the authorities of New Zealand announced that the country's iGaming market would become licensed and began accepting applications from operators. As it turns out, there are noticeably more applicants wanting to acquire a license than there are licenses available.
In total, the New Zealand regulator plans to issue 15 licenses, but by the second half of August, the number of applicants exceeded 50.
Media have named companies among the contenders like Stake, Tabcorp, Entain, already operating in the country through the TAB NZ brand, as well as Dabble. Earlier, there were rumors that VGW showed interest in a license, but they denied it.
Each company will be able to obtain no more than three licenses. The auction will be held in September, and the licenses will be issued in December.
