The free giveaway brought over 7 million new players to Moonlighter
From August 5 to 9, an action RPG with "rogue-lite" elements, Moonlighter, was available for free on Steam. As announced by Digital Sun studio, a considerable number of gamers took advantage of this offer.

The exact number of people in the game's audience now is unknown. However, based on previous developer reports, it can be assumed that there are at least 14 million players.
An interesting point: the last time Digital Sun disclosed Moonlighter's data was in June 2025. At that time, they stated that since the game's release in May 2018, 7 million people had interacted with it. This suggests that Moonlighter attracted as many players in just a few days as it did in the first seven years of its existence, even though it was given away for free on the Epic Games Store in 2019.
Additionally, during the giveaway, Moonlighter broke its record for peak concurrent players on Steam, reaching 14,244 people.
Currently, Digital Sun is preparing for the full release of the next entry in the series—Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. It is set to launch on September 2, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
