Massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) "Throne and Liberty" is moving from Amazon Game Studios to NC, previously known as NCSoft

NC, previously known as NCSoft, will take over the worldwide publishing of the game Throne and Liberty, transferring this responsibility from Amazon Game Studios. The goal is to have this transition under a unified online service by the final quarter of 2026.
FirstSpark Games, a subsidiary of NC, is collaborating with Amazon to oversee the shift in technical and operational services. They plan to preserve the gaming experience and assets across all supported platforms. Player accounts will remain consistent on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and NC's Purple service.
NC expressed gratitude towards the community nurtured by Amazon Game Studios in a statement, asserting that their involvement is crucial for the game's long-term vision. They emphasized their dedication to the success of this virtual world.
Moonyoung Choi, CEO of FirstSpark Games, acknowledged Amazon's role, noting their strong partnership. Choi expressed excitement about NC's direct involvement in the next chapter of Throne and Liberty, deeming it a logical progression.
Upon its release in October 2024, Throne and Liberty amassed over three million players within the debut week according to a report on the game's early success. Despite this, Amazon Game Studios has scaled back its MMO portfolio.
Earlier in the year, Amazon announced the closing of New World: Aeternum's servers in January 2027, following pauses in development linked to broader corporate layoffs that led to a strategic shift. Additionally, Amazon's decision to discontinue Glowmade's King of Meat stemmed from the game's inability to secure a substantial audience.
Further reports emerged in May, indicating Amazon's cancellation of its Lord of the Rings MMO project, which was a collaboration with Embracer Group and Middle Earth Enterprises, as noted in the literature.
