Amazon has decided to withdraw from managing its MMO titles. As a result, the operations of "Throne and Liberty" and "Lost Ark" will be transferred to NC and Smilegate.

Update, August 13, 2026: Amazon Game Studios is concluding its partnership with Smilegate for the MMO Lost Ark, with Smilegate managing the game fully in early 2027.

During this transition period, Amazon will continue operating Lost Ark, and all player data including account details and balances will migrate without any impact on gameplay or progress.

Original story, August 12, 2026: The global administration of the MMORPG Throne and Liberty is transferring from Amazon Game Studios to NC, formerly known as NCSoft.

NC intends to centralize the game's online service, with the changeover slated for completion by the last quarter of 2026.

FirstSpark Games, a branch of NC, is aiding Amazon in smoothly shifting the technical and operational aspects of the game while ensuring that gameplay elements remain intact across various platforms.

Player accounts will remain stable on all platforms, such as Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and NC's Purple service.

In a statement, NC expressed appreciation for the community's contributions under Amazon's stewardship, emphasizing their commitment to Throne and Liberty's future.

Moonyoung Choi, CEO of FirstSpark Games, commended Amazon Game Studios for their collaboration, expressing enthusiasm for NC's direct involvement in Throne and Liberty’s future.

Launched in October 2024, Throne and Liberty attracted over three million players within the first week.

However, Amazon Game Studios has seen a decrease in its MMO ventures recently.

This January, it revealed plans to shut down New World: Aeternum amid broader company layoffs and a reduced emphasis on large-scale games, particularly MMOs.

Following this, Amazon decided to discontinue Glowmade’s online game King of Meat due to underperformance in attracting a significant player base.

In May, there were reports that Amazon canceled its planned Lord of the Rings MMO in collaboration with Embracer Group and Middle Earth Enterprises.
