Sony does not intend to abandon the decision regarding the release of discs
For the first time, Sony's management has commented on the criticism regarding the plans to discontinue the production of physical discs for new PlayStation games in 2028. The company stated that they understand gamers' emotions, but they will not retreat from their decision.

During a teleconference, Sony CFO Lin Tao shared that the company had carefully considered its decision and does not expect that the move away from discs will have a negative impact on its business.
“We were guided by several reasons, but the main one is the overall trend towards digital content. This is a key factor. It's not just about PlayStation but all other forms of content. When we thought about the future, we paid a lot of attention to this issue and examined it from all angles. As a result, we came to this decision and will now cautiously implement it,” Lin explained.
Lin also mentioned that Sony announced their plans more than a year and a half in advance to give retailers time to respond. The company plans to cooperate with them even after moving away from discs—currently, many retail stores sell games as simply boxes with codes, so there will be partnership opportunities available in the future.
