Cyan has unveiled an abandoned prototype for a new entry in the Myst series and has confirmed that a separate Myst game is currently under development
A new installment in the Myst series is currently being developed by Cyan Worlds, as confirmed by the company.
Studio leaders Hannah Gamiel and Eric Anderson announced this development at the Mysterium fan convention on July 26 during the annual State of the Union address. They mentioned that a previously undisclosed prototype, pitched to publishers but eventually shelved, was part of their presentation.
The prototype, which had the working title Project Anglerfish, was created during 2024 and 2025. Although the project did not progress as planned, Cyan shared the teaser trailer with the public.
This announcement was included in the "Paths Not (yet) Taken" segment, which explored other unreleased or altered concepts from the past twenty years. This included initial designs for Obduction before its release, as well as projects named Lyft and DiSC.
Furthermore, Cyan has initiated the development of a new Myst-series game, referred to as Mudfish. Specifics about a release timeline or supported platforms were not provided.
In addition, Cyan is advancing with plans to release physical versions of its Myst and Riven remakes. These editions will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC, with consoles receiving disc versions and PCs offered digital download codes.
The company is also planning to reissue deluxe editions of three Myst-universe novels: The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti'ana, and The Book of D'ni, which were originally published approximately 30 years ago.
