The UK-based co-development firm CodeDev, known in the industry as The Unreal Guys, has initiated a new division named The Performance Guys. This segment is dedicated to critical optimization efforts and comprises solely of engineers and technical artists. The firm is actively looking to recruit senior engineers to join this team.

This newly established division, which officially began operations last month, has already contributed to projects such as Hangar 13's Mafia: The Old Country, as well as assignments for Epic Games, Otherside Entertainment, and a still-secret AAA game. According to a press release from the company, their specialized optimization has resulted in substantial reductions in memory usage, achieving decreases of up to 50% in cross-console projects to meet stringent platform requirements.

CEO Myke Parrott stated that while the Unreal Engine is exceptionally robust, its optimal performance requires specialized technical expertise. He noted that this expertise is often sought after late in the development process, prompting the creation of this focused division in response to partner needs.

The company has developed the "Performance Intelligence" tool, designed to present more detailed data than Unreal Insights without overwhelming developers. It helps pinpoint whether usage spikes result from localized work or dependencies, assisting in identifying incorrect thread executions. This tool is said to streamline the triage process by allowing developers to determine ownership, confirm dependency chains, and tackle the most resource-intensive nodes first.

Presently, CodeDev is concentrating on optimizing performance across various technologies, including Unreal, Unity, and bespoke solutions, catering to independent, AA, and AAA game productions, in addition to projects in virtual productions and high-end visualizations.
