Online gambling in Bangladesh can now result in a lengthy prison sentence

The Parliament of Bangladesh has approved a new law concerning gambling, including online gambling. It has introduced a series of severe penalties in the country.

Specifically, organizing online betting and bookmaking in Bangladesh now carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to 410 thousand dollars. Engaging with online casinos and other types of online gambling can lead to a five-year prison sentence and a fine of up to 81 thousand dollars.

Advertising gambling is also illegal in Bangladesh, with violators facing three years in prison and a fine of 40.6 thousand dollars.

Previously, Bangladesh operated under a colonial law adopted in 1867. Over nearly two centuries, it became significantly outdated, prompting the decision to replace it with a new one.
