The developers of Crisol: Theater of Idols shut down five months after the game's release
It seems that yet another game studio has closed its doors. This time, the Spanish Vermila Studios has gone "under the knife".
Crisol: Theater of Idols
The closure of Vermila Studios was reported by several studio employees on social media. Notably, game designer Raúl Pernía Alejandro shared this news. According to him, shortly after the release of the studio's first and only standalone game, the action-horror Crisol: Theater of Idols, mass layoffs began within the team, ultimately leading to the closure of Vermila Studios.
"The game found its audience, but unfortunately, the studio could not continue to work on it," added Pernía Alejandro.
The management of Vermila Studios has not officially announced the dissolution of the studio.
Crisol: Theater of Idols was released on February 10 and indeed received a warm reception. Its Steam version currently has a "very positive" rating (86%) based on 3,800 reviews. Nevertheless, the game's peak online presence on the platform was only 1,722 people. Besides PC, Crisol: Theater of Idols is also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Vermila Studios was founded in 2020. It primarily specialized in outsourcing development, assisting other teams with their game projects, and the release of Crisol: Theater of Idols was supposed to mark a new phase for the studio.
