With exhibitor interest surpassing previous levels, the event's planners are already strategizing to expand the format for the following year. This approach aims to address the rising demand and enhance the experience for attendees.

"The scale of Gamescom 2026 is anticipated to surpass all previous editions," remarked Felix Falk, managing director of game – The German Games Industry Association, which helps organize Gamescom. "We are seeing unprecedented interest from exhibitors. Attendees can expect an extensive lineup both in Cologne and via global livestreams."

Highlights expected to fuel excitement include the Opening Night Live, an expanded 'gamescom awesome indies show,' and the debut of 'gamescom GDQ,' set to significantly uplift anticipation for the massive gaming convention weeks ahead.

Earlier this month, announcements were made about a renewed partnership with IGN for the 'gamescom awesome indies show.' This extends a long-standing agreement, with IGN producing the main consumer broadcast of Gamescom. IGN Entertainment, the parent company of GamesIndustry.biz, owns IGN.

This year's Gamescom Congress will concentrate on themes like 'Playing Field Democracy' and 'The Games Effect,' highlighting the beneficial role of video games in democratic learning and their innovation potential across fields such as medicine, industry, and public administration.

Scheduled on August 27, this congress is part of the larger Gamescom event from August 26-30. Prior to that is Gamescom Dev, the developer-focused segment formerly known as devcom, which is set for August 23-25. The inaugural speakers for Gamescom Dev were introduced in April.
