"There is significant talent present here, and our goal is on leveraging and supporting it" – Atari names Andreas Deptolla as president of Atari Europe
Andreas Deptolla has been promoted to the position of president of Atari Europe, having previously served as the company's Chief Technology Officer. In his new capacity, Deptolla will be responsible for overseeing the operations in Europe, which include around 100 employees and studios located in the UK and Sweden. He will continue to manage the European headquarters in Munster.
Deptolla will report directly to Atari's CEO and chairman, Wade Rosen. Richard Snowdon, who serves as the CEO of Coatsink, will take on the role of vice president of Atari Europe, reporting to Deptolla.
Atari's CEO, Wade Rosen, remarked on Deptolla's contributions to the company since his arrival in 2023, emphasizing his leadership's impact on Atari's revival. Rosen anticipates that Deptolla will further expand Atari's presence in Europe and reinforce its recognition as a prominent gaming and cultural brand.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Deptolla shared his aspirations for Atari Europe, focusing on fostering collaboration with newly acquired studios and companies. In the previous year, Atari secured a significant acquisition by entering into a $5.2 million subscription agreement with Thunderful, gaining an 82% share.
"We pursue acquisitions not to dismantle these entities but to guide them," Deptolla explained. "A critical component for us is crafting a uniform culture where core values are shared, thus allowing studios to excel while benefiting from our expertise in areas such as finance, HR, legal, and publishing."
For studios taken over by Atari, Deptolla emphasized the importance of assessing their current operations. He stated that the goal is to ensure the development of "world-class IP" while supporting studios with early guidance and selecting the right projects, including IPs owned, licensed, or acquired by Atari, to drive success.
As president, Deptolla is dedicated to maintaining the "one Atari" strategy across the enterprise. Highlighting the potential within Europe, he acknowledged the abundance of talent and the strategic advantages of different regions, such as governmental grants and tax incentives in the UK, Germany, and Sweden.
"Our ambition includes expanding distribution channels, licensing opportunities, and forging partnerships across Europe, with a focus on organic growth," he added.
