The team behind Pokémon Go has rebranded. It is now called Scopely Explore
Until this point, the team was known as Niantic Games.
Scopely announced the rebranding, which acquired Niantic Games last year. The company explained that the rebranding was intended to mark the developers' affiliation. It also helped eliminate confusion—as the previous parent company of the creators of Pokémon Go is called Niantic, some might mistakenly think it still had ties to Niantic Games.
Scopely also noted that the name Scopely Explore better reflects the team’s mission—to create games centered around exploration mechanics (the word "Explore" translates to Russian as "исследование." — Editor's note).
Niantic Games officially became part of Scopely in late May 2025. The company purchased the developers along with the games Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now, as well as the applications Campfire and Wayfarer, for $3.5 billion. Meanwhile, Niantic itself, after selling its gaming division, shifted its focus to developing augmented reality technologies.
