154 employees will leave FromSoftware's parent company

Two months ago, the Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa offered some employees the option to voluntarily resign in exchange for generous compensation packages. It turned out that quite a few specialists agreed to these terms.

The portal GameBiz noticed that by July, one and a half hundred people from various teams submitted resignation applications. Whether there were any employees from the FromSoftware studio among them is unknown.

It is reported that in total, Kadokawa plans to spend 5.4 billion yen or approximately 33.6 million dollars on severance payments. Although this is a substantial amount, the company is confident that it will be worth it—by reducing its workforce, Kadokawa expects to cut annual personnel expenses by up to 1.7 billion yen (10.6 million dollars). So, in a few years, it should all pay off.

An interesting point: under the voluntary resignation program, rather experienced employees are leaving Kadokawa. This is because only specialists over 45 years old who have worked in the company for at least five years could participate in it.

Recently, many companies have launched similar programs as an alternative to standard mass layoffs. For example, in November 2025, KRAFTON started its program. Ubisoft has also repeatedly approached its employees with the same offer, which, however, did not prevent it from subsequently forcibly laying off people.
