Media: Nacon to close another studio — creators of Edge of Memories affected

The portfolio of the French publisher Nacon continues to shrink.

Edge of Memories

As reported by the journalist Origami Gauthier Andres, the court has declared Midgar Studio insolvent, meaning bankrupt. It is now preparing for liquidation.

Notably, Midgar Studio had a chance to avoid closure. In May, Nacon put the studio up for sale, but it seems no buyer was found. If Andres's information proves correct and Midgar Studio does indeed close, the team will essentially follow the fate of Spiders, another Nacon subsidiary. They also initially wanted to sell Spiders, but after an unsuccessful attempt, decided to disband it.

Midgar Studio was founded in 2008 and became part of Nacon in 2022. For the last few years, it has been working on the fantasy JRPG Edge of Memories, which was scheduled for release at the end of 2026.

Reports of the potential closure of Midgar Studio have emerged amid financial troubles for Nacon. More details on this and the overall crisis of the French gaming market can be read in the special Premium article.
