AKI: Every 13th game in the world is developed in Russia
This is reported by TASS, citing the head of the Agency for Creative Industries (ACI), Gulnara Agamova.
TSAREVNA
According to Agamova, Russian developers have created over 6,200 games to date. However, in the overwhelming majority of cases, these are not truly large-scale projects. 98% of domestic games are the work of mid-sized studios and indie teams.
“Our video game industry has significant export potential, with its strength lying in original mechanics and games based on Russian culture, history, and mythology. This is confirmed by our experience in international business missions: projects like TSAREVNA, Bylina, Slavania, and Tiny Bunny attract interest from both publishers and gamers in Asia and Latin America,” Agamova added.
Let us recall that last fall, ACI estimated that only Moscow-based gaming companies employ about 5,000-10,000 full-time employees, and including freelancers, the number of game development specialists in the capital reaches 50,000. Furthermore, at that time ACI projected that by the end of 2025, Russian spending on games worldwide could exceed 200 billion rubles. It is possible that their estimates have changed now, as ACI adjusted the figures for 2024 — whereas previously the organization believed that two years ago gamers from Russia spent 187 billion rubles on games, they now report 173 billion rubles.
