The game development studio 34BigThings, based in Italy, has regained its autonomy from the Swedish company Embracer Group. The studio's co-founder, Valerio Di Donata, has reacquired full ownership by purchasing all of its shares from Embracer, making it one of Italy's largest independent gaming studios.

Known for developing games like Carmageddon Rogue Shift and Redout, 34BigThings anticipates a dynamic future. Di Donata expressed enthusiasm about the studio's return to independence, emphasizing the newfound freedom to direct their projects and development strategies. "It's invigorating to regain control of our direction," he remarked.

The studio's upcoming plans are ambitious, with an announcement expected later this year for a significant new game rooted in a globally recognized intellectual property. Plans continue with another major release set for 2027 and an innovative project scheduled for 2028.

The studio's separation from Embracer Group, which initially acquired it in 2020 during a spree of acquisitions, marks a significant shift. The 34BigThings team, now over 70 strong, will be under the leadership of co-founder Giuseppe Enrico Franchi moving forward.

Embracer Group itself has undergone restructuring, now operating as three distinct entities: Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain Group, and Fellowship Entertainment. Former CEO Lars Wingefors addressed shareholders, describing the Fellowship Entertainment spin-off as a strategic move to maximize both brand and developer potential. "We believe Fellowship will flourish best as a standalone entity," he stated, reflecting confidence in the new direction.
