Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to debut with a price of $79.99 and will be available exclusively as a digital download

Rockstar Games has revealed that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 will be priced at $79.99. The game will be available as a digital download code enclosed in a box for the physical edition.

Starting at midnight on June 25, local time, gamers can begin to preorder the eagerly awaited GTA 6, which is slated for release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19.

Players who place preorders will gain the ability to preload the game on November 12, a week in advance of its official release. This measure is likely to alleviate the expected pressure on digital stores. Last year's launch of Hollow Knight: Silksong caused significant disruptions to the digital platforms of Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, and with the expected demand for GTA 6, similar challenges are anticipated.

The Ultimate Edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will also be released, priced at $99.99. This special edition boasts a unique collection of high-end vehicles, weapons, clothing, and activities that are integral to the storyline of characters Jason and Lucia.

Anyone who preorders before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack and a complimentary month of GTA+ as a bonus.

The gaming industry has speculated for some time about whether GTA 6 would set a new benchmark by exceeding the typical $70 price for games. Previously, Microsoft considered pricing The Outer Worlds 2 at $80 but eventually retracted this plan. In a discussion with GamesIndustry.biz, former PlayStation executive Shawn Layden highlighted that soaring development costs are pressuring AAA game developers to consider price increases.

According to Layden, "The cost of construction is just way too high. If you're going to spend over $200 million to build a game, your margins are super tight, unless you can expect to sell 25 million units. Unless you're Rockstar, [you] should not expect to sell 25 million units."

Recently, the approach of GTA 6's November launch has prompted many in the industry to adjust their release schedules, resulting in a clustering of game launches in September.
