Reports suggest that developers at Bungie proposed the idea of a Destiny-themed dating game
Bungie's team once proposed a dating simulation inspired by its successful sci-fi game, Destiny, although it never materialized beyond the initial concept.
This insight came from ex-community manager Lianna Ruppert, in reply to a fan's suggestion on Twitter for a dating sim. She noted that some developers indeed worked on such a game, but the company's leadership dismissed it, believing "nobody wanted romance or silliness."
Ruppert mentioned the game drew large inspiration from "Dream Daddy" and reflected fondly on contributing to the idea.
Additional context was shared by former senior narrative designer Robert Brookes, who explained that this project was conceived during Bungie’s 'Carnival,' a week dedicated to creating experimental prototypes.
Brookes clarified, "It was never developed into a formal project," though he noted, "We pitched it annually." He further shared that alongside two colleagues with backgrounds in romance game design, they prepared a detailed pitch with budget estimates and projected returns, but the idea failed to advance.
Bungie has recently disclosed that development on Destiny 2 will cease soon, with Bloomberg reporting that this decision might lead to substantial employee layoffs.
The company unveiled the game Marathon in March, which reportedly did not meet Sony's expectations in terms of performance.
