Following the cancellation of Argos, OtherSide Entertainment has reduced its workforce by 17 positions
OtherSide Entertainment has reduced its workforce by 17 following the discontinuation of a project they were developing.
The announcement to Game Developer revealed that the decision to release these employees was linked to the halting of the project named Argos. The company explained that under different conditions, this project might have achieved substantial success, but the present industry landscape presents significant difficulties, making the project "unviable at this time".
The company stated: "Following the termination of the development project codenamed Argos, we regrettably had to part with 17 employees at the end of May." They further mentioned, "We strongly endorse the talent of these individuals to any studios currently recruiting."
This development occurred soon after the launch of Thick as Thieves, a multiplayer stealth heist game published through Aonic Group's Megabit.
Paul Neurath established OtherSide Entertainment in 2014, with an acquisition of the Underworld intellectual property following soon after.
In 2016, Warren Spector joined the team as the studio director.
Since the debut of Underworld Ascendant, OtherSide Entertainment has faced several challenges. They had been developing System Shock 3, intended for publishing by Starbreeze, but financial issues at Starbreeze impacted funding for the highly anticipated RPG.
In 2020, Tencent took over the rights to System Shock, leading to layoffs at OtherSide. Subsequently, in 2022, Spector disclosed that the studio was no longer part of System Shock 3's development.
By early 2023, there were reports of OtherSide working on a Dungeons and Dragons project in collaboration with Hasbro, but this too was canceled.
In the same year, OtherSide was acquired by Aonic Group.
