The entire development team of Luna Abyss has been laid off — less than a month has passed since the game's release

Head of the team, Hollie Emery, announced the layoffs on LinkedIn.

Emery didn't delve into the reasons for the occurrence but noted that the decision was made outside the team. It seems this was done by Kwalee, the parent company of Kwalee Labs, the studio that created Luna Abyss.

In her post, Emery also listed all the developers of Luna Abyss (there were only nine of them) and shared their contact information to help them quickly find new jobs.

Luna Abyss is an action-adventure game with bullet hell elements, set in a colony on the Moon. The game was released on May 21, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, including the Game Pass subscription, and received a warm reception from both critics and gamers. It currently has a score of 81 out of 100 on Metacritic and a "very positive" (86%) rating on Steam.

Despite the high ratings, Luna Abyss failed to achieve significant popularity. On Steam, its peak online players amounted to only 317, and in recent days it has been hovering between 40-70 players. It is possible that the game ultimately did not meet Kwalee's expectations, leading to the dismissal of its entire team of creators.
