The release of Fable has been postponed to February 2027
Playground Games' Fable, backed by Xbox, will now see its release postponed to February 2027.
Through a recent announcement, Xbox highlighted the importance of scheduling game launches effectively for consumer benefit, hence the adjustment to Fable’s timeline, ensuring it “gets the dedicated moment it deserves.”
During an Xbox podcast, Matt Booty, Chief Content Officer, expanded on this, explaining that the initial Autumn release would clash with the anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Booty expressed enthusiasm, stating, "One of the year's biggest entertainment events will be a video game," and emphasized how significant this is for the gaming community.
He reassured that Fable's development is progressing well and stressed the significance of allocating a unique release opportunity for the game.
"We want Fable to shine in its own time frame," Booty articulated, adding that more insights will be shared during the Xbox Showcase.
This Showcase, scheduled for June 7, will primarily highlight games, intentionally avoiding discussions on hardware or broader strategies.
"While there are some strategic matters to address, our emphasis remains on the games," explained Booty. "Our long-term objective is to make well-considered choices, not hasty ones."
Initially, in January, Playground Games had indicated an Autumn 2026 launch period for Fable.
Originally slated to debut in 2025, the game’s launch was deferred to ensure a high-quality end product.
Fable is set to rejuvenate the franchise rather than simply revamping previous games.
Notably, the original creators, Lionhead Studios, closed in 2016, and the previous installment, Fable: The Journey, hit the market in 2012.
