The developers of Star Citizen have already raised over a billion dollars

The crowdfunding campaign for Star Citizen has reached an astronomical milestone.

According to the Roberts Space Industries website, at the time of writing this news, the funding for the space simulator has reached an impressive $1,004,122,732. This sum has been contributed to Cloud Imperium Games by 6.54 million people.

As noted by our colleagues at IGN, reaching the billion-dollar mark coincided with the pre-sales launch of Anvil Odin — a new ship in Star Citizen priced at $5,000. Notably, the ship is still in development, meaning it cannot yet be flown. Purchasing Anvil Odin isn’t straightforward either. Interested gamers must first join the Odin Founders Club and write an essay explaining their reasons for buying the ship.

Let us remember, Cloud Imperium Games began working on Star Citizen back in 2010, but the date of the game’s full release is still unknown. It is suggested that this will occur within two years after the release of the story-driven spin-off Squadron 42. Meanwhile, Squadron 42 is reportedly in its final stages and could debut in the near future — at least, that’s what the studio head Chris Roberts claims.
