Harry Krueger, who directed the game Returnal, has embarked on a new venture by establishing Cosmic Division, a game development company.

The Helsinki-based outfit will focus on maintaining a small team size, emphasizing "craftsmanship, quick iteration, and sustainable growth" rather than expanding in size.

The inaugural project from Cosmic Division is in development as a unique intellectual property, planned as a single-player game for both PC and console platforms. The game is characterized by a "gameplay-first approach" and aims to deliver a narrative that "elicits a deep emotional reaction."

Krueger's tenure at Housemarque spans 15 years, beginning in 2009 as a gameplay programmer. He played significant roles in crafting games such as Nex Machina and Resogun.

Among his achievements, Krueger directed Returnal and initially influenced the direction for the game Saros before its full production commenced.

Reflecting on his career, Krueger expressed gratitude, stating, "I'm incredibly grateful to Housemarque for our shared journey, which has shaped the foundations for our new studio."

He added, "We're proud of what we've achieved but remain forward-thinking. At Cosmic Division, we're leveraging our strengths while pioneering new directions through innovative themes, ideas, and talent. We believe there is always space for games rooted in enduring values that engage players and leave a lasting impression."

Krueger also elaborated in a LinkedIn post that "working with outstanding individuals" has enabled the creation of "experiences resonating with players globally."

He noted, "Those experiences have profoundly shaped me and laid the groundwork for our new studio. Through Cosmic Division, we aim to build on these foundations while exploring new opportunities and developing a voice uniquely our own."
