The former game director of Returnal has opened his own studio — Cosmic Division
At the end of 2023, Harry Krueger, a veteran of Housemarque who contributed to Returnal, Nex Machina, and even worked on Saros, left the studio. It turned out that he did not leave game development altogether and recently founded his own team.
Like Housemarque, Cosmic Division is based in Helsinki. The team plans to create ambitious games with a focus on gameplay that evoke strong emotions in gamers.
"We believe that games reach their apex when they leave an emotional imprint. Therefore, we want to create projects that are simultaneously grand, unsettling, beautiful, and deeply human," states the Cosmic Division website.
The studio has already begun work on its debut project. It is known that this will be a single-player game for PC and consoles based on an original IP. Cosmic Division will reveal more details about the project closer to its release.
The studio has also secured initial funding, but how much and from whom remains undisclosed publicly.
