Giant Skull and Wizards of the Coast have concluded their partnership

The collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull has concluded, resulting in the termination of a Dungeons & Dragons action-adventure project.

According to Bloomberg, a representative for Hasbro's division expressed admiration for Stig Asmussen's team even though the decision was made to not advance an early concept from Giant Skull. The spokesperson noted their willingness to entertain future proposals from the developer.

Stig Asmussen, who founded Giant Skull, confirmed that the company is exploring future publishing opportunities, both with Hasbro and other entities, stating that the studio is doing well.

Last June, Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull announced their exclusive partnership.

Asmussen had previously described the aim at the time as developing an engaging new Dungeons & Dragons world with captivating narratives and thrilling gameplay.

In an investment move, Hasbro reported to Gamesindustry.biz that it had allocated $1 billion for in-house game projects in 2024.

Wizards of the Coast is actively working on Exodus with Archetype Studios and developing Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons with Invoke Studios.

The decision to end the collaboration with Giant Skull came during a larger restructuring phase at Wizards of the Coast. As part of this reorganization, it decided to close its internal studio, Atomic Arcade.

Founded in 2024, Giant Skull comprises industry veterans previously associated with Electronic Arts' Respawn Entertainment. Asmussen has notably directed games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
