Media: Over two years, the value of the Polish studio Mighty Koi dropped by 3,800 times
In 2024, the indie team from Poland, Mighty Koi, announced ambitious plans: they aimed to follow in the footsteps of CD PROJEKT and announced two games inspired by works of Polish authors — Thorgal and The Night Wanderer. However, two years later, the studio found itself in a dire financial situation.
Thorgal
Puls Biznesu brought attention to the situation. It discovered that this Thursday, May 21, court-appointed bailiffs are set to auction off 41% of Mighty Koi’s shares, which currently belong to the studio's CEO, Marcin Grzegórski. Their value is estimated at only 9,300 zlotys or roughly 2,500 dollars. Considering this, it can be assumed that Mighty Koi as a whole is now worth about 23,000 zlotys (6,300 dollars).
For Mighty Koi, such a price represents a steep decline. Back in 2024, the studio was valued at 87 million zlotys (23.84 million dollars). Since then, it has effectively lost nearly all its value.
The reasons behind the auction and the rapid devaluation of Mighty Koi are unknown. However, it is noteworthy that the studio has been involved in various scandals for some time. For instance, last spring, it was accused of creating a toxic work environment, delaying salaries, and deceiving investors. Later, the studio faced criticism from Grzegorz Rosiński, a Polish artist and one of the authors of the Thorgal comic series. He claimed that the studio's management had misled him significantly when proposing to create a game based on the comics, and now he doubts whether the team can even bring the idea to fruition.
Mighty Koi has not commented on the current situation.
