Embracer Group was also fined in Russia — but less than other gaming companies

Reports have been confirmed that the Tagansky District Court of Moscow is preparing to fine Embracer Group for violating Russian law. The lawsuit against the Swedish holding was reported by the newspaper "Kommersant" last week.

The reason for the fine once again is part 8 of article 13.11 of the Russian Administrative Code, which mandates the localization of Russian citizens' data. According to it, gaming companies must store and process the personal information of Russian gamers on servers located in Russia, rather than abroad.

The fine for Embracer Group was set at 1 million rubles. Notably, this is less than what the court previously imposed on other game developers and publishers under the same article — with Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Battlestate Games each being fined 2 million rubles. It is possible that in Embracer Group's case, the scale of violations was not as significant, or some mitigating circumstances were considered.

It is expected that by the end of May, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow will also fine Epic Games and Digital Extremes.

Let's recall that all the recent lawsuits against gaming companies were initiated by Roskomnadzor. There were rumors that it might soon start blocking their games in the country, but the agency stated that there are currently no grounds for such actions.
