The Spanish company MercurySteam has announced a restructuring that involves reducing its workforce. Established in 2002, the studio has worked with noted names like American McGee and Clive Barker and collaborated on Konami's Castlevania series. Their latest project, Blades of Fire, was released in 2025.

MercurySteam stated that the layoffs are part of the "production cycles of our industry," labeling the decision as necessary yet challenging. In a message shared on LinkedIn, they expressed gratitude towards those leaving, acknowledging their significant contributions to the company’s legacy, and invited other studios to consider hiring the affected employees.

The company has committed to managing this transition with care and respect over the coming weeks, although the exact number of employees impacted remains unspecified.

This announcement comes shortly after Night Street Games revealed it was also reducing its staff following the unexpected underperformance of its recently launched hero shooter, despite assurances that the company wasn't "going anywhere."
