Night Street Games has announced job cuts following the underperformance of their latest release, Last Flag, which did not meet the company’s expected financial goals
A few days after announcing plans to continue operating despite halting development on its new hero shooter, launched a few weeks prior, Night Street Games has announced a downsizing of its workforce.
In a post on LinkedIn, Jonathan Jelinek, the executive producer, explained that the studio did not achieve the expected financial results, prompting the need to reduce staff.
"Unfortunately, this decision affected some of our highly skilled developers," noted Jelinek. "If there are opportunities for experienced Unreal Developers, please consider contacting us."
Although the precise number of developers affected wasn’t specified, the company has not formally announced details regarding the layoffs.
Earlier in the month, Night Street Games communicated to players that while they decided to cease further development, the studio emphasized: "Aware of our limits compared to larger competitors, we designed the game to offer a full experience at a fair price without live-service elements like battle passes or microtransactions."
"For those keeping track on Steam, you’re likely aware that Last Flag hasn't attracted the necessary player base for the experience we want to provide. However, we're not giving up. Financial constraints mean we can't support further development, including on consoles, except for some forthcoming patches."
"The game’s operations will continue, and we aim to enhance your experience with future updates. Look forward to additions such as a tenth character, a new map, fresh game modes, cosmetics, leaderboards, and more over the next few months."
In conclusion, the studio affirmed: "We're committed to ensuring Last Flag remains available. The support from our community is invaluable, and we’re determined to keep the game accessible."
