SNK has revealed its investment in a new enterprise established by Katsuhiro Harada, an influential figure from Bandai Namco known for his work on the Tekken series. This new entity, VS Studio, will join forces with SNK in developing video game software to enhance their creative output. SNK aims to provide support for the initiation of the studio and will integrate it as a subsidiary, as per their announcement.

Yasuyuki Oda of SNK, who has worked on the King of Fighters XV and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, shared an open and honest insight into the alliance, stating that there are no concrete decisions yet, but he is confident that "things will become even more exciting." He described Harada as both "a long-time friend and a worthy rival."

"Mr Katsuhiro Harada has been a long-time friend and worthy rival to us"

Harada dedicated his career to Bandai Namco, becoming synonymous with the Tekken brand. He held the roles of Director and Executive Producer on numerous Tekken games since 1997 and was recognized for his lively involvement with fans at public events and on social media. His contributions extended to other Bandai Namco titles, such as Coden Vein and Tales of Arise. He eventually rose to the position of general manager before announcing his departure in 2025.

In a statement, Harada outlined VS Studio's guiding principle: "Beyond tradition, crafted to perfection," emphasizing a blend of technology, creativity, and global expertise. The concept behind "VS" in the studio's name carries multiple interpretations, including roots in "Video game Soft" and the ethos of "Versus," as well as ideals like "Visionary Standard," "Volition Shift," and "Vanguard Spirit."

Reflecting on his development experience, Harada expressed his vision for an ideal environment for creators to excel. He stated, "VS Studio is one answer to that question," aiming to merge technology and talent with driven colleagues to deliver superior gaming experiences globally. The studio seeks team members who align with this vision and are eager to face such challenges.

SNK's latest title is Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, created by the internal KOF studio. Since 2022, the company has been largely owned by the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation; however, SNK has indicated that this ownership does not influence its operations. Nonetheless, the Saudi connection was noted in the inclusion of characters like Cristiano Ronaldo and DJ Salvatore Ganacci in the game.
