Industry expert Alex Oxspring and musician The Stupendium, known for his YouTube presence, have launched a new independent studio, Stupendium Softworks.

This studio, located in the UK, is embarking on the creation of its inaugural game, a first-person horror survival game, with filming and production set to begin in the summer.

Stupendium Softworks is dedicated to sustainable gaming, deliberately avoiding generative AI technology in its projects.

Oxspring expressed frustration with the current industry, citing wasteful practices such as ineffective management and high employee turnover. "We are keen to focus more on sustainability and creative excellence," he remarked.

With over ten years of industry experience, Oxspring has held positions as a game designer at companies like nDreams, Dambuster Studios, Sumo Digital, and Firesprite, as well as serving as the managing director at Hitpoint Games.

The Stupendium, recognized for his nerdcore music, has created songs about well-known video games including Alan Wake 2, Frostpunk 2, and Genshin Impact.

The pair's initial collaboration was in 2021 with the dating simulation OnlyCans: Thirst Date, and they teamed up again this year for Polyarmory: High Calibre Love. The team behind Polyarmory is now spearheading development of the new studio's first game.

"Offbeat romance with sharp political undertones is just one aspect of our vision," stated Oxspring. "We aim to craft games that are cheerful, inclusive, and celebratory, utilizing our diverse talents to pay tribute to our treasured game series and cinematic inspirations."

The Stupendium added, "Having spent so long creating songs and videos about games, I'm excited for the opportunity to actually make some games myself. Plus, it gives purpose to the vast array of filmmaking equipment I've acquired."
