Apple has an advantage

American analytical companies have shared information about some of the trends of last fall in the mobile systems market. Among them: the growth of the share of the iOS platform, the victory of smartphones over conventional mobile phones, as well as something about the high popularity of the iPhone.

While CES is taking place in Las Vegas, where they talk, among other things, about the future of the mobile industry, analytical companies continue to summarize the results of the past year.

One of such companies is NPD, according to which report, the share of the iOS mobile operating system in the American market rose from 26% in the third quarter of 2011 to 43% in October-November of the same year. In turn, the share of Android for the same period fell from 60% to 47%.

Also, according to market analysts, smartphone sales continued to grow in the fourth quarter of 2011. Last November, out of three mobile phones purchased in the United States, two were smartphones. For comparison, in the fourth quarter of 2010, the share of ordinary mobile phones to smartphones was one to one.

As for the top ten best-selling phones in the US, the situation there is even more disastrous for conventional handsets: nine out of ten devices belong to smartphones. Moreover, the first three places were occupied by Apple with iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. And, judging by the data of another analytical company – ChangeWave Research – this situation is unlikely to change in the near future: of the respondents surveyed by analysts who are going to buy a smartphone in the next 90 days, 54% want an iPhone.

According to ChangeWave Research experts, the fact that 75% of respondents using the iPhone are very satisfied with their devices contributes to the popularity of the brand. For example, it is a little more difficult to find happy Samsung customers: only 47% of respondents are completely satisfied with their devices of this brand.
