It seems that Skybound Games will no longer be publishing third-party games

Skybound Games hinted that it is exiting the global publishing business during an interview with The Game Business.

In the conversation, company executives David Alpert and Jon Goldman stated that Skybound Games has learned a lot in game publishing, but this type of work still remains difficult for them. Not to mention, publishing is expensive. Therefore, at least for now, Skybound Games intends to focus more on its own franchises rather than external ones.

"We have experienced both successes and failures. To be honest, we probably had more failures than successes. But we realized that bringing a product to market is really challenging, and it's getting harder each time. So, we want to figure out how to act more wisely," said Alpert.

Skybound Games has been actively publishing games from third-party developers for the past five years. For instance, it released Before Your Eyes, The Big Con, Closer The Distance, and Goodnight Universe. However, at the end of 2025, Skybound Games was involved in a major scandal—with a lawsuit filed against them by former partners from publisher iam8bit, accusing them of financial misconduct. Whether this legal issue is related to Skybound Games' desire to distance itself from publishing others' games is unclear.

Incidentally, this evening, April 30th, Skybound Games will release Invincible VS—a superhero fighting game by its subsidiary studio Quarter Up. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
