Spiders, the studio behind Greedfall, is preparing to shut down
The video game developer Spiders, known for Greedfall: The Dying World, is closing down. French media outlet Origami, referenced by Eurogamer, initially reported the shutdown, noting that Nacon, Spiders' parent company, could not secure a buyer for the Paris-based studio.
Spiders has now officially confirmed this information, expressing regret over the lack of updates in recent weeks. They acknowledged that after a period of uncertainty, they received confirmation that the studio is going into liquidation. The company stated in a tweet that the company would no longer function, although a planned DLC will be released by Nacon.
Spiders expressed their sorrow about the situation and extended gratitude to their supporters over the years. They advised players with questions or issues with games to contact Nacon directly, as they will not be able to respond to queries anymore.
The future of support for Greedfall: The Dying World, which launched on March 10, remains uncertain. Origami's coverage, citing "multiple sources familiar with the subject," indicated that the move towards liquidation was a necessary step after the cancellation of another project, codenamed Dark, last year. Following this, Spiders concentrated on completing GreedFall 2 and crafting a new proposal for future stability.
Reports also mentioned that staff have shifted to updating resumes and pursuing personal development rather than working on new projects. It was noted last month that Nacon subsidiaries Spiders, Kylotonn, Cyanide, and Nacon Tech have all filed for insolvency.
