Shuhei Yoshida doubts that Sony can currently recoup the budgets of its games without PC

Recently, there have been rumors that Sony might stop releasing games on PC. However, Shuhei Yoshida, who previously led Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, considers such an outcome unlikely.

In an interview with Back Pocket, Yoshida explained that for a long time, Sony was prohibited from considering the PC platform. Yet, as games grew in scale and development costs increased, the company re-evaluated its policy. According to Yoshida, this decision was logical—porting allowed Sony to recoup expenses more quickly and reinvest the earnings into future projects.

Yoshida emphasizes that the move to PC did not affect PlayStation console sales. In the end, the company benefited.

Yoshida believes that if Sony started releasing PC versions of its narrative AAA games simultaneously with the console versions, then there would be reasons for concern. However, Sony does not take this approach. Considering that budgets for its titles have now increased even further, he doesn't see any evidence that Sony should change its strategy—at least not in the current console generation.
